In 1982, Professor Mohammed Omar Bashir presented the idea of a civil university to some Omdurman figures who adopted the idea and worked to implement it. After several meetings and deliberations, the first founding meeting of the university was held in 1984 at the home of Mr. Mohamed Sayed Ahmed. With the support of some of the good people of the nation, the dream of many of them was achieved by the Omdurman University College as a basic nucleus of the University. The study started at the university college on November 1st, 1986 at the Malik schools in Omdurman and then moved to its main buildings in Hamad El-nil in 1993
